شابات كويتيات في مقتبل العمر أسمائهن ذاعت صداها في أقصى بقاع العالم وأدناها، كفاهن فخرا بأن يحملن علم بلادهن طوال مسيرتهن الرياضية، تفانيهن في ممارسة الرياضة واتقانها كان سببا في خوض منافسة أولمبياد لندن 2012 ليحققن أملا للكويتيات في الإنجاز والعطاء والإبداع.
ولا يخفى اسم الرامية بالبندقية الهوائية مريم الرزوقي (24 عاما) ضمن البارزات المشاركات في الأولمبياد لاسيما بعد تحقيقها للميدالية الذهبية في بطولة حضرة صاحب السمو امير البلاد الشيخ صباح الاحمد الجابر الصباح حفظه الله ورعاه السنوية الدولية الكبرى للرماية، فضلا عن تفوقها على رماة القارة الاسيوية في البطولة الاسيوية الكبرى والتي اقيمت في دولة قطر، لتكون بكل اعتزاز أول رامية خليجية وعربية تشارك في أولمبياد لندن 2012.
كما التحقت “سلسبيل السيار” ضمن مسيرة الأسماء الكويتية النسائية اللامعة في الأولمبياد في مجال ألعاب القوى، في حين حققت السباحة الكويتية “فيْ سلطان ” (17 عاما) انجازا غير مسبوق في كونها أول سباحة خليجية ستمثل بلادها على الصعيد العالمي في الألعاب الأولمبية.
وبدورها أكدت السباحة فيْ، حسب قناة روسيا اليوم الإخبارية، أنها تحلم من الصغر بأن تشارك في الأولمبياد ، وأضافت أنها اختارت رياضة السباحة لتصبح أول كويتية تمارس رياضة السباحة.
يذكر أن دانة النصر الله كانت أول كويتية تشارك في الالعاب الاولمبية عندما شاركت في سباق مئة متر في اولمبياد اثينا 2004.

It took two attempts in 24 hours, but Sir Richard Branson has entered the record books as the oldest person to kite-surf the English Channel, although he failed to secure the second record he had also been hoping to snatch, which was set by his son Sam on Saturday, for the fastest cross-Channel kite-surf.

The 61-year-old Virgin boss crossed from Dymchurch, Kent, to Wimereux in northern France in three hours and 45 minutes to establish the first Guinness World Record for the oldest person to make the crossing by kite-surfing.
Sir Richard failed to secure the second record he had also been hoping to snatch, which was set by his son Sam on Saturday for the fastest cross-Channel kite-surf.
Sam made the 30-mile journey from Wimereux to Folkestone in two hours and 18 minutes, shaving 12 minutes off the previous record, which was set in 1999.
He was followed on to shore by eight friends and relatives who entered the record books as the fastest group of kite-surfers to make the Channel crossing, for which there was no previous record.
Sir Richard, who turns 62 next month, had to abort his part in Saturday’s challenge after realising – when he was halfway across – that his kite was too small to carry him over.
But he immediately vowed to try again, saying he wanted to ‘finish the job’.
Last night Sir Richard said the journey was ‘far more challenging’ than expected, with strong winds and large waves.
He said: ‘I got half-way across and the kite was foolishly too small for me. I was heading for the cliffs of Dover where there is no beach.
‘I was told to go back to France, which I did, to get a bigger kite. When I got there they had packed the kites up and were heading to England.
He added that he now had even more respect for his son in gaining his world record.
Sam said it was ‘an amazing experience’, adding: ‘I feel pretty euphoric. It’s an amazing thing to have done.
‘The main moment when it really hit me was when we were coming in and could see the white cliffs of Dover.
‘It reminded me of people coming over to Britain to battle. It was an amazing experience.
Kite-surfing, or kite-boarding as it is also known, is a water sport in which the rider is pulled through the waves on a surfboard, propelled by a large controllable kite.
Sir Richard has described it as one of his favourite sports and has previously been pictured showing off his kite-surfing skills with a naked model clinging to his back.
Writing in 2010, he said: ‘I absolutely love the amazing rush you get when going at high speeds, in high winds, with the most beautiful kite acting as your only guide.’
Sir Richard, of course, is no stranger to record attempts.
In 1987, his hot air balloon Virgin Atlantic Flyer crossed the Atlantic, setting the record for the first balloon to do so.
In January 1991, he was in the first balloon to cross the Pacific from Japan to Arctic Canada in a journey that amounted to 6,700 miles (10,783km).
And from 1995 to 1998, Sir Richard, Per Lindstrand and Steve Fossett made several attempts to circumnavigate the globe by balloon.
